Perth Summer Carnival

perth racing carnivalThe 2018 Perth Summer Carnival takes place at Ascot Racecourse from late October through to the end of December.

Highlighted by the $1,000,000 Group 1 Railway Stakes in November, the Perth Summer Carnival also hosts the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic in December.

Other feature races during the summer carnival are the $500,000 Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes and $400,000 Group 2 Perth Cup.

Perth Cup day is always a huge social occasion to bring in the new year in Perth, and is generally held on New Year’s Day each year. Occasionally it is held on New Year’s Eve which makes for an exciting meeting for locals.

About Perth Racing

The Western Australian Turf Club (WATC), under the operations of Perth Racing, conducts thoroughbred racing in the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia. Ascot and Belmont Park are the two city tracks used for city racing and they are located close to the Perth city centre.

Perth Racing hosts spring and summer racing carnivals at Ascot, with the winter racing carnival taking place at Belmont Park.

Spring racing at Ascot features the Railway Stakes, Winterbottom Stakes, and Kingston Town Classic. Major autumn races include the Karrakata Plate and WATC Derby. Winter racing at Belmont features four group races including the Belmont Sprint and Strickland Stakes.

Ascot Racecourse is Western Australia’s headquarters for racing and is located around 8 kilometres east of the Perth city centre.

The Ascot track is 2,000 metres with an inclined straight of 300 metres and is known as one of the toughest run homes in Australian racing.

Where is Belmont Park?

Belmont Park Racecourse is Perth’s winter racing track for city racing. Belmont Park is 1,699 metres in circumference and has a 333 metre long straight.

Belmont Park is an excellent wet weather track with great drainage for winter racing.
