Caulfield Cup History

First run in the autumn of 1879, the Caulfield Cup has a proud history and created some of the most memorable moments in Australian racing. The race was moved to the spring in 1881 and has grown to become the second most prestigious race of the Melbourne spring carnival behind the Melbourne Cup.

Saint Warden scored at 100/1 in 1948 to become the longest priced winner of the Caulfield Cup. The mighty Tulloch is the shortest priced winner at 4/6, or around $1.67 in decimal odds.

Capturing the big Caulfield & Melbourne Cup spring Cup’s double has long been on the agenda for trainers and horses during the spring with the achievement guaranteeing them a place in history.
