Menari rampant 2017 Golden Rose favourite despite wide gate

September 20, 2017

racing in sydneyDespite a wide barrier classy three-year-old Menari still holds favouritism for Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Rose in Sydney.

Online bookmaker Sportsbet has Menari at $2.00 after he received barrier 11, in the 14-horse field, for the $1,000,000 Rosehill feature race.

The Gerald Ryan trained colt scored an exciting victory in the Group 2 Run To The Rose at Rosehill last start and is flying this time in.

Second favourite Pariah will jump from barrier 12 and has eased from $6.00 out to $6.50, as has Merchant Navy, out from $7.50 out to $8.00.

Others to drift include Champagne Cuddles $15.00 to $17.00, Chauffeur $17.00 to $21.00, Formality $17.00 to $19.00 and Dracarys $19.00 to $21.00.

“The top two fancies fared poorly at the barrier draw, but they’re still the ones punters want,” said Sportsbet’s Will Byrne.

“Menari holds slightly more money than Pariah, but they gap the rest of the field in popularity.”
