2017 William Reid Stakes preview and odds – Punters back Star Turn

March 23, 2017

melbourne horse racingPunters at Sportsbet think it’s Star’s turn to shine in the 2017 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley tomorrow night.

The $500,000 Group 1 William Reid Stakes is the final group one race of the Melbourne autumn and support for smart three-year-old Star Turn has gathered momentum.

Star Turn had trouble gaining backers when Sportsbet opened betting on the Moonee Valley feature sprint.

However, that has now switched with Star Turn firming from $4.60 into $4.40 favourite.

Oakleigh Plate winner Sheidel holds second position in William Reid Stakes betting on $4.80 ahead of the Darren Weir trained Hellbent at $7.50.

Moe trained galloper Illustrious Lad also has plenty of admirers and his price has firmed from $13.00 into $11.00.

Last year’s winner Flamberge is unwanted and has eased from $13.00 out to $16.00.

“Star Turn is yet to crack it for a Group 1, but he is an outstanding colt. He finished third, at his last two starts, in the Lightning and Oakleigh Plate and punters think he can get the job done this time,” said Sportsbet’s Will Byrne.

The 2017 William Reid Stakes will run on Friday 24th March 2017 at Moonee valley racecourse in Melbourne and is Race 7 on the card at 9.30pm in the evening.
