Plenty of punter interest in impending interest rate change

January 18, 2017

moneySteady punter backing has resulted in online bookmaker Sportsbet slashing the price of an interest rate increase being the next move from $2.25 into $1.70.

Any decrease as the next movement has gone from the $1.60 favourite to a $2.10 outsider.

Sportsbet has taken 40% more bets on an increase overall, however in the past week, nearly 100% of the money has been on that option.

The $1.87 favourite bracket for the interest rate at the end of 2017 is between 1.5 and 2%. 2018 is the favourite to be the date of the next rate rise at $2.50.

“Punters are almost certain that there won’t be any change in February, which is priced as a $1.10 chance,” said Sportsbet’s Christian Jantzen.

“One punter has outlaid $2,000 on no change for a $200 profit…..better than bank interest I suppose!”
