Punters expect Yankee Rose to bloom in 2016 Crown Oaks

November 2, 2016

Flemington racesThe 2016 Crown Oaks highlights the third day of the four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington tomorrow.

David Vandyke filly Yankee Rose is a hot $1.65 favourite despite drawing a wide barrier and the classy three-year-old has been sensationally backed to win the Group 1 feature for fillies.

Yankee Rose was $4.60 last month, but she has since firmed into $1.65 favourite with online bookmaker Sportsbet.

Punters launched into her after running third to Winx in the Cox Plate and Yankee Rose holds eight times more money than second best backed filly, Eleonora at $9.00.

Second favourite is Harlow Gold at $8.00, with the rest at double figure odds.

Sebring Dream $11.00 and Missrock $13.00 are finding it hard to attract bets, with $251 outsider Penthouse Kitten holding more money.

“If weight of money is any guide, then Yankee Rose is the good thing of the Flemington carnival,” said Sportsbet’s Will Byrne.

“She’s been backed as if unbeatable and the only one given a sniff of beating her is Eleonora, with ‘daylight’ third.”

“She could start from the car park and probably still beat them.”
