Astern tipped to take a bow in 2016 Golden Rose at Rosehill

September 5, 2016

golden roseThe first Group 1 race of the Sydney spring carnival takes place this Saturday with the running of the 2016 Golden Rose at Rosehill.

Smart John O’Shea-trained colt Astern is the horse punter’s want in the $1,000,000 three-year-old feature.

After winning the Group 3 Run To The Rose two weeks ago at Rosehill, online bookmaker Sportsbet turned his price from $13.00 into $4.60.

Astern has further tightened and now heads betting at $3.20.

Another impressive last start winner, Divine Prophet, trained by Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes, is $4.20 second favourite.

Chris Waller three-year-old Omei Sword, who may not accept for the Golden Rose, is on the third line at $5.00.

“Astern showed a great turn of foot to win the Run To The Rose and by all reports has improved off that run,” said Sportsbet’s Ben Bulmer.

“There is some concern he may be a risk at 1400m, but the punters don’t think so.”
