Punters fancy Great Britain for Davis Cup and Australia for Ashes

July 20, 2015

andy murrayThe Commonwealth rivalry will continue well into September when Australia takes on Great Britain for a spot in the Davis Cup final.

The Andy Murray led Great Britain are $2.60 favourites to take out tournament for the first time since 1936, while Australian is next in-line at $3.75 with WilliamHill.com.au.

“The British will have home ground advantage in the tie, but with the ‘Lleyton Hewitt Farewell Tour Team’ fired up after a remarkable comeback win in Darwin, anything could happen,” William Hill’s Tim Ashworth said.

Meanwhile, in the other ongoing British battle, Australia remains on track to retain the Ashes after completely dominating the English in the second Test at Lords.

Michael Clarke’s men go in to the Third Test at Edgbaston on Friday as the $1.80 front-runner and England at valued at $4.00. The draw is $3.75.

“After such a one-sided performance, it’s no surprise to see the 3-1 win to the Aussies as the clear $3.75 favourite in the correct-score market with punters.

“It’s been backed to the houses since we opened the Ashes market and looks a good bet,” said Ashworth.
