Sydney Spring Carnival
The 2011 Sydney Spring Racing Carnival runs from August through to early October with quality thoroughbred racing action at both Rosehill and Randwick racecourses, headlined by the 2011 Epsom Handicap in October.
In February 2011, the Australian Jockey Club (AJC) and the Sydney Turf Club (STC) merged to form the Australian Turf Club (ATC) which now conducts metropolitan racing in Sydney and a $174Million funding package from the NSW Government will see major redevelopments to both Randwick ($150M) and Rosehill ($24M) race tracks which will provide a huge boost to racing in Sydney.
The major race at Rosehill during the spring takes place on Golden Rose Day in September with the running of the $1Million 2011 Golden Rose which is the feature event of the day and this year moved to the Saturday before the George Main Stakes Day.
The Golden Rose raced over 1400 metres on Saturday 10th September, 2011 is the only $1,000,000 race of the spring carnival in Sydney and the massive prizemoney on offer always attracts the best 3yo gallopers going around.
Randwick hosts two fantastic spring days with George Main Stakes Day in late September and Epsom Handicap Day two weeks later in early October.
The two most prestigious races of the spring at Randwick are the $300,000 2011 George Main Stakes over 1600 metres on Saturday 17th September, 2011 and the $350,000 2011 Epsom Handicap also over 1600 metres and held on Saturday 1st October, 2011.

Randwick racecourse will be partially closed for construction works from 14th November 2011 which means the Villiers Stakes and Summer Cup will be held away from Randwick this year.
