Sydney Autumn Carnival
The 2010 Sydney autumn racing carnival is an action packed couple of months in March & April highlighted by the running of the $3,500,000 Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill racecourse.
The Sydney Turf Club (STC), which is home to Rosehill and Canterbury racecourses, has 3 major days of racing during the autumn carnival, with a number of Group One races on offer, Coolmore Stud Classic Day & Rosehill Guineas Day in March, followed by Golden Slipper Day in early April.
The STC major race days take place over 3 consecutive weeks at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney.
The Australian Jockey Club (AJC) which races at both Randwick and Warwick Farm racecourses has 5 major race days where Group One racing is on the program.
The main Randwick autumn carnival is held in mid to late April over 3 consecutive Saturdays and includes Australian Derby Day, Doncaster Handicap Day and Sydney Cup Day.
The AJC also hosts Group 1 racing in early march with Chipping Norton Stakes Day at Warwick Farm racecourse and Randwick Guineas Day at Randwick racecourse.

Expressway Stakes Day, Rosehill racecourse
Group racing at Rosehill kicks off the Sydney Autumn carnival in early February with the running of the $200,000 Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at weight for age.Challenge Stakes Day, Randwick racecourse
The following week at Randwick sees the $150,000 Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m SW) for 3yo colts & geldings, along with the equivalent race for fillies, the $150,000 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m SW).Also on the card at Randwick are the $150,000 Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m SW+P) for mares and $125,000 Group 3 Frederick Clissold Stakes (1200m) Quality handicap for open horses.
Apollo Stakes Day, Rosehill racecourse
Racing returns to Rosehill for the $250,000 Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Weight-for-age which is always a top race for horses heading towards the bigger races to come.Hobartville Stakes Day, Rosehill racecourse
Rosehill backs up again the next Saturday to host the $200,000 Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m SW) for three-years-old and this signals the big 3yo events to come, with both the Randwick and Rosehill Guineas ahead in the next few weeks.Other group races on Hobartville Day are the $200,000 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m SW) for 2yo gallopers and $125,000 Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) which is a quality event for Fillies & Mares.
March Group races in Sydney
Chipping Norton Stakes Day, Warwick Farm racecourse
Warwick Farm hosts its only feature day of racing in March and it is also the first Group One race of the autumn with the $300,000 Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at weight for age.Three more top groups races are on the program, including the $150,000 Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m SW) for 3yo fillies, the $125,000 Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) which is a Quality Handicap event, and the $125,000 Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m SW) 2yo gallopers.
Randwick Guineas Day, Randwick racecourse
Guineas Day at Randwick is always a big affair and the first of the Group One races for three-years-old in the autumn, the $350,000 Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m SW) the highlight of the day.The Guineas has been a stepping stone to many a good young galloper over the years.

Golden Slipper Stakes Day, Rosehill racecourse
The biggest day of racing at Rosehill during the Sydney autumn racing carnival takes place the following week with the $3,500,000 Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m SW) for two-years-old the major drawcard.The race always attracts the nation’s best 2yo gallopers and has become one of the biggest races on the Australian racing calendar each year.
The whole card is full of quality racing and alongside the Slipper comes the major staying event of the Sydney autumn, the $2,250,000 Group 1 The BMW (2400m) run under weight-for-age conditions and always a field of quality stayers.
