Fremantle vs Hawthorn preview – AFL Footy Second Elimination Final
By Beejay on Sep 02, 2010 with Comments 1
Fremantle face one of the biggest games in their short history when they meet Hawthorn in the Second Elimination Final on Saturday 4th September at Subiaco Oval in front an expected capacity crowd in Perth.
The purple haze will be out in full force on Saturday in the west and the Dockers have opted to leave out seasoned veteran Paul Hasleby for the clash against the Hawks.
Ryan Crowley comes in for the Dockers along with Alex Silvagni and Jesse Crichton with Hayden Ballantyne missing with a foot injury and Jay van Berlo omitted.
Luke Hodge has come up for the Hawks after missing last week against the Pies and he is a massive inclusion for the brown and gold and Rhan Hooper makes way.
The match will be played in front of a vocal home crowd and we should see a fantastic game.

Hawthorn produce a solid final quarter to come from behind to beat top team Collingwood and it was Lance Franklin again hurting the Magpies with 6 goals while Sam Mitchell had 30 touches along with Cyril Rioli and Jordan Lewis 27.

Recent History
| Year | Rd | Home | Pts | Away | Pts | Venue |
| 2010 | R21 | Hawthorn | 155 | Fremantle | 39 | Aurora |
| 2009 | R8 | Fremantle | 65 | Hawthorn | 87 | Subiaco |
| 2008 | R2 | Fremantle | 97 | Hawthorn | 112 | Subiaco |
| 2007 | R7 | Fremantle | 96 | Hawthorn | 80 | Subiaco |
| 2006 | R18 | Fremantle | 104 | Hawthorn | 51 | Subiaco |
Forgetting the most recent meeting at Aurora when the Dockers rested half their team the Hawks have comfortably won both encounters against Fremantle over the past two years and both were played at Subiaco Oval.
The Hawks will have no qualms about travelling to Perth to play the Dockers and recent history says they can get the job done.
Last 5 Rounds for & against
| Team | Goals | Points | Disposals | Disp PG | In 50′s | Tackles | ||||||
| Fremantle | 13 | 16.6 | 90 | 109 | 345 | 402 | 26.5 | 24.2 | 57 | 52 | 58 | 64 |
| Hawthorn | 15.8 | 12.4 | 104 | 87 | 351 | 344 | 22.2 | 27.7 | 52 | 54 | 60 | 60 |
The Hawks have improved in leaps and bounds in recent weeks and they are scoring almost 3 goals a game more than the Dockers and conceding around 4 goals less which is a significant figure. To add further to the Hawks dominance is their top class disposals per goal rate of 22 as opposed to the Dockers 27.
With the game being played in Perth one would expect higher figures for the Dockers and lower figures for the Hawks, but on form over the past five rounds Fremantle is going to have to find quite a bit to contain the Hawks.
Our Tip: Hawthorn
We have been impressed with Fremantle this season and they have certainly earned their spot in the finals but now that the time has come for them to perform they face probably the best team in the bottom half of the eight in Hawthorn.
The Hawks have been getting better every week and it’s no coincidence that the good form of Peter Burgoyne has added to their cause and they will gain plenty from their top win against Collingwood last week and with the added bonus of Luke Hodge returning to the side they will go into the finals chock full of confidence.
As much as we have admired the Dockers this season we believe Hawthorn’s hardness at the ball and recent final’s experience will get them over the line and put a bit of fear into the teams in the top half of the eight.
