NRL Round 24 Preview

Rabbitohs Eels
2.50 1.55

Friday, August 27, ANZ Stadium, 7.35pm

Last Week

The Rabbitohs (10W-12L) were smashed 54-18 by the Panthers at CUA Stadium while the Eels (10-12) went down at home by 2 points to the Tigers.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 ANZ Stadium Rabbitohs 8 vs 22 Eels
2009 ANZ Stadium Rabbitohs 16 vs 16 Eels
2009 ANZ Stadium Rabbitohs 8 vs 14 Eels
2008 ANZ Stadium Rabbitohs 32 vs 20 Eels
2007 Parramatta Stadium Rabbitohs 12 vs 18 Eels

The Eels have not lost to the Rabbitohs at this venue in their past three clashes and the Rabbitohs have only scored double figures once in those three meetings.

Referees: Ben Cummins, Matt Cecchin

Our Tip: South Sydney Rabbitohs

Both sides are coming off disappointing losses last round and in a game that could realistically go either way we think the Rabbitohs are the value in this match especially if you pick your own line at Centrebet and take a points head start.

Centrebet

Warriors Broncos
1.52 2.60

Sunday August 27, Mt Smart Stadium 6.05pm

Last Week

The Warriors (12-10) lost by 3 points to the Sea Eagles in a tight encounter at Brookvale Oval while the Broncos (11-11) were very disappointing in their 44-18 ;oss to the Knights at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Suncorp Stadium Warriors 48 vs 16 Broncos
2009 Suncorp Stadium Warriors 14 vs 28 Broncos
2009 Mt Smart Stadium Warriors 10 vs 26 Broncos
2008 Mt Smart Stadium Warriors 16 vs 12 Broncos
2007 Mt Smart Stadium Warriors 24 vs 14 Broncos

The Warriors scored an easy win over the Broncos at Suncorp earlier this season while the Brisbane side won both matches when they met last season including one at this venue. The New Zealanders won the previous two encounters prior to that.

Referees: Jared Maxwell, Tony De Las Heras

Our Tip: New Zealand Warriors

Michael Luck is set to miss for the Warriors but they should be able to get the points in front of a vocal home crowd against a Broncos side still without the inspirational Darren Lockyer.

Centrebet

Sharks Titans
2.95 1.41

Saturday, August 28, Toyota Stadium, 5.30pm

Last Week

The Sharks (6-16) travelled to AAMI in Melbourne and lost 24-4 to the Storm while the Titans (14-8) scored a top 9 point win over the Roosters at Sydney Football Stadium on Monday night.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2009 Skilled Park Sharks 10 vs 20 Titans
2008 Toyota Stadium Sharks 30 vs 14 Titans
2008 Skilled Park Sharks 4 vs 18 Titans
2007 Toyota Stadium Sharks 28 vs 12 Titans
2007 Carrara Stadium Sharks 16 vs 18 Titans

Past five meetings have alternated winners to the home state team which means its the Sharks turn to win if that trend continues.

Referees: Chris James, Jason Robinson

Our Tip: Gold Coast Titans

The Sharks probably represent some value at home on recent history between these two sides but we fancy the in-form Titans to continue in the same vein and get the points over Cronulla.

Centrebet

Raiders Cowboys
1.11 7.00

Saturday, August 28, Canberra Stadium, 7.30pm

Last Week

The Raiders (11-11) were too good at home for the Dragons winning by 16 points while the Cowboys (5-17) were valiant against the Bulldogs at Dairy Farmers Stadium before going down by 2 points.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Dairy Farmers Stadium Raiders 8 vs 16 Cowboys
2009 Canberra Stadium Raiders 23 vs 18 Cowboys
2008 Dairy Farmers Stadium Raiders 10 vs 22 Cowboys
2007 Dairy Farmers Stadium Raiders 22 vs 28 Cowboys
2007 Canberra Stadium Raiders 24 vs 28 Cowboys

The Cowboys have won four of their past five meetings against the Raiders which includes a victory at Canberra Stadium but that was back in 2007. The last meeting at this venue was last season where Canberra won by five points while the Cowboys won their earlier clash this season at home.

Referees: Ashley Klein, Brett Suttor

Our Tip: Canberra Raiders

One would expect the Raiders to comfortably win this match at home on their recent form but recent history says they won’t want to take the Cowboys lightly or it could come back to haunt them.

Considering the Cowboys are showing $7 and have won four of their last five encounters against the Raiders, with the only loss being by 5 points, they could be worth a long shot if you pick your own line at Centrebet and take a few points head start.

Centrebet

Knights Dragons
2.30 1.63

Sat, August 28, EnergyAustralia Stadium, 7.30pm

Last Week

The Knights (10-12) massacred the Broncos at home 44-18 while the Dragons (15-7) suffered a 32-16 loss away to the Raiders.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2009 WIN Jubilee Oval Knights 24 vs 18 Dragons
2008 EnergyAustralia Stadium Knights 16 vs 24 Dragons
2007 EnergyAustralia Stadium Knights 4 vs 20 Dragons
2007 WIN Jubilee Oval Knights 16 vs 12 Dragons
2006 EnergyAustralia Stadium Knights 12 vs 38 Dragons

The Dragons have won the past three meetings at this venue against the Knights scoring 20+ points on each occasion.

Referees: Shayne Hayne, Gerard Sutton

Our Tip: St George Dragons

Expect the Knights to come out hard on ‘Old Boys Night’ and serve it up to the Dragons but we expect St George to withstand the Newcastle challenge and escape with a victory.

Centrebet

Wests Tigers Storm
1.49 2.65

August 29, Leichhardt Oval, Sunday, 2.00pm

Last Week

Wests Tigers (14-8) scored a solid 23-16 win over the Roosters at SFS while down at AAMI Park the Storm (13-9) were too good for the Sharks to the tune of 20 points.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2009 Olympic Park Tigers 12 vs 14 Storm
2009 Leichhardt Oval Tigers 16 vs 6 Storm
2008 Campbelltown Stadium Tigers 18 vs 30 Storm
2007 Bluetongue Stadium Tigers 30 vs 12 Storm
2007 Olympic Park Tigers 16 vs 18 Storm

These matches have alternated winners in the past five encounters and the last match at this venue resulted in a 10 point win to the Tigers.

Referees: Gavin Badger, Alan Shortall

Our Tip: Wests Tigers

The in-form Tigers at Leichhardt Oval look the goods for ours especially against a travelling Storm side with nothing to play for but pride.

Centrebet

Roosters Sea Eagles
1.57 2.45

Sunday, August 29, Sydney Football Stadium, 3.05pm

Last Week

The Roosters (12-10) went down by 9 points at home to the Titans while the Sea Eagles (12-10) scored a last gasp win at home over the Warriors 19-16 in a sound display.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2009 Sydney Football Stadium Rooster 12 vs 44 Eagles
2009 Brookvale Oval Rooster 18 vs 38 Eagles
2008 Sydney Football Stadium Rooster 34 vs 12 Eagles
2008 Brookvale Oval Rooster 0 vs 42 Eagles
2007 Brookvale Oval Rooster 0 vs 56 Eagles

The Sea Eagles have won four of the last five clashes against the Roosters scoring 38 points or more on four occasions.

Referees: Tony Archer, Matt Cecchin

Our Tip: Sydney Roosters

The Sea Eagles are probably the value here on recent history but considering their injury concerns we fancy the Roosters will have too much up front for Manly and take the points.

Centrebet

Bulldogs Panthers
2.65 1.50

Monday, August 30, ANZ Stadium, 7.00pm

Last Week

The Bulldogs (8-14) travelled to Queensland to defeat the Cowboys 22-20 while the Panthers (13-9) went on a scoring rampage over the Rabbitohs winning 54-18 at Cua Stadium.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 CUA Stadium Bulldogs 16 vs 31 Panthers
2009 ANZ Stadium Bulldogs 19 vs 12 Panthers
2009 CUA Stadium Bulldogs 28 vs 26 Panthers
2008 CUA Stadium Bulldogs 16 vs 52 Panthers
2008 ANZ Stadium Bulldogs 4 vs 30 Panthers

The Panthers won the early season clash by 15 points at CUA Stadium while the Bulldogs won both encounters last season including a victory at this venue.

Referees: Tony De Las Heras, Steve Lyons

Our Tip: Penrith Panthers

David Stagg misses for the Bulldogs and all things being equal the Panthers should come away with the victory here but recent history says the Bulldogs are not without some chance and could be an option if you pick your own line at Centrebet and take a few points head start.
