2010 US Open Tennis Preview – 2010 US Open Betting and Odds

Roger Federer will be aiming for his 6th title in seven years when the 2010 US Open Tennis Championships take place from Monday 30th August through to Sunday 12th September at Flushing Meadows in New York City.

The 2009 US Open Men’s Final resulted in a major upset when Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro defeated the Swiss maestro Roger Federer in five exciting sets 3-6 7-6 4-6 7-6 6-2.

Federer is a five-time champion but he appears to have lost his mojo in recent majors and missing the 2010 Wimbledon Final shows he is not the player he once was.

2010 US Open Championships Preview – Mens

Australia’s number one betting agency Sportsbet has Roger Federer $3.25 favourite to claim his 6th US Open title and while Federer has the ability to win the event he is way under the odds for ours.

Englishman Andy Murray $4.00 is well fancied in early markets at Sportsbet and he finished runner-up to Federer here in 2008 and will fancy himself on this surface after a good Wimbledon in June.

Murray performed well at Wimbledon making the Semi-Finals before bowing out to Rafael Nadal in three sets. Andy Murray is right in the mix at this year’s US Open.

Rafael Nadal $4.33 is the world’s best player and his Grand Slam record in recent times when fit is the best on tour.

Maybe the time is right for the Spaniard to take out his first ever US Open but it’s worth noting that Nadal is yet to make the Final of any US Open in his time on the tour.

Next in betting is  Novak Djokovic $15.00 who is yet to beat a top 10 player this year and little chance for ours, while Robin Soderling $17.00 is yet to make it past the Quarter Finals at this tournament.

Tomas Berdych $21.00 looms as a big threat for the 2010 US Open and he was good enough to beat Federer and Djokovic on his way to a three-set loss to Rafael Nadal in the 2010 Wimbledon Final before going down in three sets and letting the world know he is ready to take the next step.

At $21.00 Berdych appears to best value of the tournament in early markets.

2010 US Open Championships Women’s preview

Reigning women’s US Open champion Kym Clijsters $4.50 is equal favourite with 2006 Champion Maria Sharapova $4.50 in early markets for the Women’s title and the field is fairly wide open this year with a number of genuine chances.

Caroline Wozniacki $8.00 is next in betting and the Dane went down in two sets to Clijsters in these Championships last year, while Belarusian Victoria Azarenka $10.00 defeated Maria Sharapova for the Stanford title and has to be respected.

World number 4 Venus Williams $11.00 generally saves her best for the Wimbledon grass these days but she is a multiple winner of this event in 2000-2001 with two runner-up finishes who could make her presence felt if things fall her way, but we can’t see her winning.

Australia’s main hope Samantha Stosur $34.00 is big odds in early markets.
