NRL Round 24 Preview

Knights Broncos
1.97 1.87

Friday August 20, EnergyAustralia Stadium, 7.35pm

Last Week

The Knights (9-12) found the Warriors too strong in New Zealand going down 22-10 while the Broncos (11-10) were smashed 30-14 at home by Parramatta Eels.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Suncorp Stadium Knights 30 vs 22 Broncos
2009 EnergyAustralia Stadium Knights 28 vs 12 Broncos
2008 Suncorp Stadium Knights 2 vs 24 Broncos
2008 EnergyAustralia Stadium Knights 22 vs 34 Broncos
2007 Suncorp Stadium Knights 6 vs 71 Broncos

The Knights won the earlier encounter this season in Brisbane and they also won the most recent clash at this venue last season. The Broncos won the three previous meetings including one at this Stadium in 2008.

Our Tip: Newcastle Knights

Newcastle playing at home with Jarrod Mullen returning to the side appear the ones to beat here against a Broncos side still missing Darren Lockyer. Newcastle has won the past two meetings against the Brisbane side and this match appears a fairly even contest which makes the home side the value at the current odds on offer.

Centrebet

Panthers Rabbitohs
1.48 2.72

Friday August 20, CUA Stadium, 7.35pm

Last Week

The Panthers (12-9) were mauled by the Tigers to the tune of 25 points at Campbelltown Sports Stadium and the Rabbitohs (10-11) lost a close tussle by 2 points to the Storm at AAMI Park in Melbourne.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 ANZ Stadium Panthers 22 vs 42 Rabbitohs
2009 CUA Stadium Panthers 40 vs 10 Rabbitohs
2009 ANZ Stadium Panthers 12 vs 36 Rabbitohs
2008 CUA Stadium Panthers 26 vs 22 Rabbitohs
2007 CUA Stadium Panthers 32 vs 16 Rabbitohs

Both sides have alternated wins in their last four matches with the Panthers winning twice at CUA Stadium and the Rabbitohs twice at ANZ Stadium. If the trend continues then the Panthers will be victorious given this game is at CUA Stadium. It’s worth noting the past five clashes have all been high scoring affairs with game totals of 48+ points each time.

Our Tip: Penrith Panthers

Penrith have slumped to five losses in their past six matches and while we fancy them to win this clash because they are playing at home, they are certainly well under the odds on their recent form. The Rabbitohs smacked the Panthers by 20 points earlier in the season and could be a good option if you pick your own line at Centrebet and take a points head start.

Centrebet

Sea Eagles Warriors
1.52 2.60

Saturday August 21, Brookvale Oval, 5.30pm

Last Week

The Sea Eagles (11-10) lost by 22 points to the Dragons at WIN Jubilee Oval on Monday night while the Warriors (12-9) impressed at home defeating the Knights by 12 points.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Mt Smart Stadium Sea Eagles 14 vs 6 Warriors
2009 Brookvale Oval Sea Eagles 24 vs 26 Warriors
2008 Sydney Football Stadium Sea Eagles 32 vs 6 Warriors
2008 Mt Smart Stadium Sea Eagles 20 vs 14 Warriors
2008 Brookvale Oval Sea Eagles 52 vs 6 Warriors

The Sea Eagles have won the past five games played against the Warriors which include a win earlier this season at Mt Smart in New Zealand. Manly has averaged almost 30 points a game over the NZ side whilst keeping them to 6 points on three occasions in their past five clashes.

Our Tip: New Zealand Warriors

This should be a top clash and while Manly would be expected to win on their recent history against the New Zealanders we feel they are under the odds considering they played Monday night and had a bruising encounter with the Dragons. The Warriors are in good form and represent value for ours, especially if you pick your own line at Centrebet and take a points head start.

Centrebet

Storm Sharks
1.28 3.80

Saturday August 21, AAMI Park, 7.30pm

Last Week

The Storm (12-9) got over the Rabbitohs 18-16 at home while the Sharks (6-15) scored a top 18-12 win over the Roosters at Toyota Stadium.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Toyota Stadium Storm 14 vs 10 Sharks
2009 Olympic Park Storm 30 vs 10 Sharks
2008 Sydney Football Stadium Storm 28 vs 0 Sharks
2008 Olympic Park Storm 16 vs 17 Sharks
2007 Toyota Stadium Storm 17 vs 16 Sharks

The Storm have won their last three games against the Sharks including a win earlier in the year at Toyota Stadium by 4 points. The Sharks have been unable to keep the Storm to under 14 points in recent games and have struggled to score double figures in their past three encounters against the Melbourne side.

Our Tip: Melbourne Storm

One would expect the Storm to come out to play in front of a home crowd this week and that should be enough to get them over the line against an improved Sharks outfit of late.

Centrebet

Cowboys Bulldogs
2.35 1.61

Saturday August 21, Dairy Farmers Stadium, 7.30pm

Last Week

The Cowboys (5-16) were found wanting in their 37-18 loss to the Titans at Skilled Park while at ANZ Stadium the Bulldogs (7-14) were trounced 28-14 at home at the hands of the Raiders.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2009 Dairy Farmers Stadium Cowboys 12 vs 22 Bulldogs
2009 ANZ Stadium Cowboys 18 vs 30 Bulldogs
2008 Suncorp Stadium Cowboys 36 vs 12 Bulldogs
2007 Dairy Farmers Stadium Cowboys 20 vs 18 Bulldogs
2007 Dairy Farmers Stadium Cowboys 38 vs 32 Bulldogs

The Bulldogs have won both games played against the Cowboys last season while prior to that the Queensland side scored three wins in a row. The last five meetings have all been high scoring games with 34+ points scored on each occasion.

Our Tip: Canterbury Bulldogs

It’s been a very ordinary season for the Cowboys and this is a game where the Bulldogs can get the points and make it three on the trot against their opponents.

Centrebet

Raiders Dragons
2.30 1.65

Sunday August 22, Canberra Stadium, 2.00pm

Last Week

The Raiders (10-11) travelled to Toyota Stadium to score a solid 14 point win over the Bulldogs while the Dragons (15-6) confirmed their top of the table status with a 22 point win over the Sea Eagles at WIN.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 WIN Stadium Raiders 22 vs 14 Dragons
2009 Canberra Stadium Raiders 24 vs 12 Dragons
2008 WIN Stadium Raiders 19 vs 12 Dragons
2008 Canberra Stadium Raiders 21 vs 14 Dragons
2007 WIN Stadium Raiders 16 vs 58 Dragons

The Raiders have owned the Dragons in their past four clashes and St George has been unable to score more than 14 points while Canberra has averaged 20+ which make this a danger game for the Dragons.

Our Tip: Canberra Raiders

The Raiders are coming off a good win last week and they find themselves against a Dragons outfit they have managed to dismantle in recent times which says the short odds about the Dragons are no value, which means the Raiders are, especially if you pick your own line at Centrebet and take a points head start.

Centrebet

Eels West Tigers
1.67 2.25

Sunday August 22, Parramatta Stadium, 3.00pm

Last Week

The Eels (10-11) made the trip to Brisbane to take down the Broncos by 16 points while Wests Tigers (13-8) demolished the Panthers 43-18 at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Sydney Football Stadium Eels 12 vs 23 Tigers
2009 Sydney Football Stadium Eels 26 vs 18 Tigers
2009 Parramatta Stadium Eels 6 vs 23 Tigers
2008 Parramatta Stadium Eels 40 vs 12 Tigers
2008 ANZ Stadium Eels 44 vs 6 Tigers

Theses teams have alternated wins over the last four meetings and the Tigers won the most recent clash earlier this season at Sydney Football Stadium plus they also won the most recent encounter at this venue, ironically with the same game score of 23 points.

Our Tip: Parramatta Eels

The Eels returned to something like their best last week against the Broncos and with Timana Tahu back for this match we fancy they can continue on with the good form and take the points here.

Centrebet

Roosters Titans
1.61 2.35

Monday August 23, Sydney Football Stadium, 7.05pm

Last Week

The Roosters (12-9) were upset away to the Sharks 18-12 while the Titans (13-8) were far too good at home for the Cowboys and got home by 19 points.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Skilled Park Roosters 30 vs 16 Titans
2009 Bluetongue Stadium Roosters 20 vs 24 Titans
2008 Sydney Football Stadium Roosters 28 vs 32 Titans
2007 Carrara Stadium Roosters 18 vs 22 Titans
2007 Sydney Football Stadium Roosters 24 vs 18 Titans

The Roosters won this fixture when they met earlier in the season at the Titan’s home ground while the previous three matches went by way of the Gold Coast side. The last time they met at this venue was in 2008 when the Titans scored a 4 point win.

Our Tip: Gold Coast Titans

The Titans are are in great form and they appear the best value of the round for ours at their current odds and we expect them to notch their 14th win of the season on Monday night.
