2010 Liston Stakes Preview – Caulfield Saturday 14th August

A number of spring stars are set to resume in the 2010 Liston Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday 14th August including 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking and 2009 WS Cox Plate winner So You Think on a huge 8 race card, with the first set to jump at 12.15pm and the last race at 4.40pm.

The 2010 Melbourne spring racing carnival looms large and Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily is also making her return to racing in the listed Quezette Stakes on Saturday and she is a classy filly in for a magnificent spring judging by her autumn form.

2009 Liston Stakes winner Predatory Pricer $12.00 has drawn nicely in barrier eight and follows the same path as last year when he resumed to defeat Whobegotyou and Typhoon Tracy which proved to be a spring board for some top efforts in major races throughout the spring.

Opening favourite for the race is AJC Derby winner Shoot Out $3.00 who will be much improved from his first-up Bletchingly Stake’s win and will appreciate the extra distance of this race. Jockey Stathi Katsidis will guide the classy 4yo from barrier ten on Saturday and he has the benefit of recent racing over many of his opponents.

Mick Price 5yo Heart Of Dreams $5.00 has not started since finishing sixth in the George Ryder Stakes in Sydney during the autumn and he generally runs well fresh and has good form over this course.

WS Cox Plate victor So You Think $4.80 is well fancied in early markets for the Liston Stakes and the Bart Cumming’s galloper has drawn ideally in barrier one for his return to racing. So You Think is high in betting for the 2010 WS Cox Plate and can make his presence felt here if anywhere near ready.

Last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Shocking $59.00 has drawn nicely for his return to racing and will derive plenty of benefit from going around in the Liston Stakes. Trainer Mark Kavanagh will have bigger fish to fry with this quality galloper, including the 2010 Melbourne Cup

Many gallopers resuming at this meeting will be aiming to play a big part of the 2010 Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington racecourse which features four days of high quality thoroughbred racing action in November.

Entry to Caulfield racecourse is Adults $10, Concession $5.00 and children get in free with an adult. Free Public Parking is available at the tunnel entrance from the Kambrook and Glen Eira Roads roundabout and the track was Heavy8 at time of writing.
