How well hung is your Parliment?

A hung parliament has firmed in betting with online bookmaker Sportsbet. While still the outsider, a hung parliament is now rated a $6 chance (in from $9).

“The $6 still looks generous, although, it’s been seventy years since Australia’s last hung federal parliament,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane.

The battle between family and sex has begun, with Family First a $1.25 chance to record more Senate first preference votes than the Australian Sex Party ($3.30).

Family First recorded more than 200,000 first preference Senate votes in 2007, which was 1.62% of total votes. This will be the first time the Australian Sex Party will appear on the national stage in a Federal election.

“At this stage the Australian Sex Party are underdogs, but surely they’ll attract some interest from swinging voters,” said Lane.

In overall betting, the Coalition’s purple patch with punters has come to a complete halt with 95% of bets written in the past two days on Labor.

“We found it hard to write a bet on Labor for almost two weeks, however, that trend has completely reversed in the past 48 hours,” said Lane.

Labor is now into $1.42 to win the election (in from $1.60), while the Coalition has drifted from $2.35 to $2.80.
