Liston Stakes Day at Caulfield Saturday 14th August

It doesn’t seem like 12 months already since Predatory Pricer got the better of Whobegotyou in the 2009 Liston Stakes and you know spring racing is in the air when the good horses start returning to the racetrack as they will on Saturday in the 2010 Liston Stakes at Caulfield.
Early nominations for the Group 2 Liston Stakes over 1400 metres at Caulfield racecourse on Saturday 14th August include a number of quality gallopers all on their way to the either the Caulfield Cup, WS Cox Plate or Melbourne Cup later in the spring.
2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking is set to resume his spring campaign in the Liston as he sets out on another big spring for the Mark Kavanagh stable.
Other gallopers of noted entered for the Liston include Bart Cumming’s 2009 WS Cox Plate winner So You Think and 2009 AAMI Victoria Derby winner Monaco Consul from the Michael Moroney stable.
2009 Liston Stake’s winner Predatory Pricer will be back to defend his crown while John Wallace’s 2010 AJC Derby winner and recent Bletchingly Stake’s winner Shoot Out will go around again and has the edge in fitness on the returning sprong stars.
Also on Liston Stakes Day is the W. W. Cockram Stakes for mares which is a $125,000 race over 1200 metres for female gallopers only.
Other feature races on the weekend include the Group 3 Run To The Rose at Rosehill in Sydney and the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Morphettville in Adelaide and full previews can be found at out leading feature race website Horse Racing Info.
Also on Liston Stakes day is the ‘Back to Caulfield’ initiative which celebrates its 16th year in 2010 after being introduced in 1995 as part of the ‘Australia Remembers’ commemorations. Its main purpose is to recognise Caulfield Racecourse’s significant role as a military recruitment centre during World War 2.
Admission to Caulfield on Saturday 14th August is Adults $10.00, Concession $5.00 and Children Under 14 Free when accompanied by an adult.
Car Parking opens at 10:30am with Free Public Parking in the centre of the course and accessed by vehicle tunnel from the roundabout at Kambrook and Glen Eira Roads.
