2010 Aurie’s Star Handicap preview at Flemington racecourse

The 2010 Aurie’s Star Handicap will headline a top day of racing at Flemington races on Saturday 7th August with the first race beginning at 12.05pm and the last event at 4.30pm

Upgraded to a Group 3 race for the new racing season the Aurie’s Star Handicap often produces horses who will go on to more success over the 2010 Melbourne spring racing carnival and the race is set down to start at 3.10pm.

Last year’s winner Mic Mac had an excellent spring of 2009 going on to win the the Group 2 Memsie Stakes before running placings in the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and Group 2 Schweppes Stakes later in the carnival.

Early favourites for the 2010 Aurie’s Star Handicap are Peter Moody filly Headway and Mark Kavanagh gelding Elusive Touch.

Headway $4.00 with Damien Oliver abord will be having her first outing since finishing unplaced in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes in March. Headway won the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes last spring over this course & distance and she will jump from barrier one to be given every chance.

Mark Kavanagh gelding Elusive Touch $4.00 has the benefit of recent racing with a last start second in the Vic Sprint and a previous start win both over this course & distance which auger well for his chances here from barrier three with Stephen Baster aboard.

Bel Espirit gelding Beltrois $7.00 from the Robbie Griffith’s camp has a win and second from two tries over this trrack & trip and he will jump from gate seven aided by the services of Glen Boss.

The Handsome One $8.00 is a last winner over this very course and will be piloted by Dale Smith while the consistent Royal Ida $9.00 with Brad Rawiller in the saddle has six wins over this trip and is as honest as they come.

Admisson prices for Flemington races on Saturday are Adults $12, concession student $10 and concession pensioner $7 with children 15 and under free. Gates open one and a half hours before the first race.
