2010 Bletchingly Stakes preview – Caulfield racecourse

The 2010 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield racecourse on Saturday 31st July sees the return of group racing to Melbourne and the $125,000 race signals the onset of the 2010 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival in weeks to come.
Let Go Thommo was ridden superbly by Steven King to win the 2009 Bletchingly Stakes by three-quarters of a length from Orange County with one length further back to Mr Baritone in third place, running the 1200 metres in a time of 1:11.57.
The Mick Price trained Velocitea $3.30 has opened up favourite for the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes at Sportsbet after the classy mare drew barrier 6 in the eleven horse field.
Velocitea will be having her first run since winning the Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville racecourse back in May and she will be ridden by Craig Newitt.
AJC Derby winner Shoot Out $4.00 resumes after a highly successful Sydney autumn where he also took out the Group 1 Randwick Guineas on his way to Derby success. Stathi Katsidis will again be aboard and Shoot Out will jump from barrier one which will probably see the High Chaparral gelding take his customary position back in the field.
Trainer John Wallace is aiming high for Shoot Out this spring with the $6.2M Melbourne Cup on the agenda during the 2010 Melbourne Cup Carnival in November.
Others in the market include Shane Fliedner’s talented gelding Tollesprit $7.00 who finished only 3 lengths behind Wanted in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap at his last run before a spell and he resumes here from barrier 3 with Simon Arnold aboard.
Keano $9.00 from the Danny O’Brien stable has drawn nicely in barrier 4 and with Nicholas Hall to ride he has the benefit of two recent runs including his most recent second behind quality galloper Reward To Effort in the Monash Stakes at this track.
