Bletchingly Stakes Day at Caulfield Racecourse Saturday 31st July

Group racing is back on the agenda in Melbourne on Saturday 31st July when the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes will highlight a top day of racing at picturesque Caulfield racecourse to signal the beginning of big time racing ahead in coming months.

The $125,000 Bletchingly Stakes is normally the first group race of the new racing season but with thoroughbred birthdays falling on Sunday 1st August this year, the Bletchingly Stakes will be held on the Saturday prior, which is the final race day of the 2009/2010 racing season.

In a rare racing anomaly, the Bletchingly Stakes will be held twice in the 2009/2010 racing season.

Always a great race to end the winter lull and kick start the new racing season, the Bletchingly Stakes is a weight-for-age 1200 metres sprint race named after former champion sprinter Bletchingly who was a speed machine that raced in the early seventies and once ran 56.8 seconds down the Flemington 1000 metres straight course to equal the course record.

Let Go Thommo raced on the pace to score a strong win in the 2009 Bletchingly Stakes from consistent sprinter Orange County second and Mr Baritone third. Head over to Australia’s number one website Horse Racing Info for a detailed Bletchingly Stakes preview.

Early weight-for-age races in Melbourne are well received by punters as they provide a great lead in to the prestigious 2010 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival ahead in coming months with the magnificent 2010 Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington the highlight of spring racing in November.

Come back later in the week for the for the 2010 Bletchingly Stakes final field & barrier draw.
