NRL Round 20 Preview

Bulldogs Eels
2.65 1.50

Friday July 23, ANZ Stadium, 7.35pm

Last Week

The Bulldogs (6-11) went down by 4 points to the Roosters at Sydney Football Stadium while the Eels (8-9) knocked off the Panthers 34-28 at CUA Stadium.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 ANZ Stadium Bulldogs 10 vs 26 Eels
2009 ANZ Stadium Bulldogs 12 vs 22 Eels
2009 ANZ Stadium Bulldogs 8 vs 27 Eels
2009 ANZ Stadium Bulldogs 48 vs 18 Eels
2008 ANZ Stadium Bulldogs 12 vs 26 Eels

The Eels have won four of the last five clashes over the Bulldogs at this venue including the last three in a row in very easy fashion.

Our Tip: Parramatta Eels

The Eels scored a confidence boosting win over the Panthers last round and with the return of Timana Tahu to the side they should be able to get over the Bulldogs who will be desperate for a win in this match.

Centrebet

Dragons Titans
1.26 3.95

Friday, July 23, WIN Jubilee Oval, 7.35pm

Last Week

The Dragons (13-4) are preched on top of the ladder and they defeated the Rabbitohs 16-13 at ANZ Stadium while the Titans (9-8) were beaten by 14 points at home to the Broncos.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Skilled Park Dragons 19 vs 6 Titans
2009 Skilled Park Dragons 24 vs 28 Titans
2009 WIN Stadium Dragons 16 vs 10 Titans
2008 Skilled Park Dragons 26 vs 22 Titans
2008 WIN Stadium Dragons 30 vs 12 Titans

The Dragons have beaten the Titans in four of the last five clashes which include the last two meetings at this venue.

Our Tip: St George Dragons

No Greg Bird and Ash Harrison for the Titans combined with a trip to Kogarah Oval make this a tough test for the Gold Coast side and we fancy the Dragons to continue on their winning ways.

Centrebet

Raiders Sharks
1.36 3.20

Saturday, Canberra Stadium, July 24, 5.35pm

Last Week

The Raiders (7-10) demolished the Knights 52-18 at Cenberra Stadium while the Sharks (5-12) were hammered 48-18 by Manly at Toyota Stadium.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2009 Canberra Stadium Raiders 22 vs 24 Sharks
2009 Toyota Stadium Raiders 24 vs 14 Sharks
2008 Toyota Stadium Raiders 10 vs 36 Sharks
2008 Canberra Stadium Raiders 24 vs 36 Sharks
2007 Canberra Stadium Raiders 12 vs 22 Sharks

The Sharks have won four of the last five against the Raiders including the last three at Canberra’s home ground and that makes the $1.36 about the Raiders appear very much under the odds indeed on that stat alone.

Our Tip: Cronulla Sharks

The Raiders at home will be hard to toss here but they represent no value here against a team who have had their measure in recent times. The Sharks have captain Trent Barrett returning from injury and Cronulla will be out to impress new coach Shane Flanagan and we fancy they can cause an upset here, at great odds. The Sharks appear a great bet if you pick your own line at Centrebet and take a points head start as they have a wonderful record against the ACT side.

Centrebet

Storm Panthers
1.62 2.35

Saturday July 24, AAMI Park, 7.30pm

Last Week

Melbourne (9-8) went down 13-6 to the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium in New Zealand while the Panthers (11-6) were overrun by the Eels to the tune of 6 points at CUA Stadium.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 CUA Stadium Storm 16 vs 10 Panthers
2009 Olympic Park Storm 16 vs 14 Panthers
2008 CUA Stadium Storm 40 vs 6 Panthers
2007 Olympic Park Storm 30 vs 20 Panthers
2006 Olympic Park Storm 17 vs 16 Panthers

Melbourne Storm has won their past five clashes against the Panthers with their only meeting last season resulting in a 6 point win to the Storm.

Our Tip: Penrith Panthers

Hard to really know how Storm will tackle this game with the result having no bearing whatsoever and considering the Panthers sit second on the table and have plenty to play for they are good value here, especially if you pick your own line at Centrebet. The Panthers do not have a great record in Melbourne but the circumstances surrounding this game give them a great chance to improve that record.

Centrebet

Cowboys Knights
1.60 2.38

Saturday, July 24, Dairy Farmers Stadium

Last Week

The Cowboys (4-13) went down by 10 points to Wests at Leichhardt Oval while the Knights (7-10) lost to the Raiders by 34 points in Canberra.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 EnergyAustralia Stadium Cowboys 18 vs 36 Knights
2009 EnergyAustralia Stadium Cowboys 26 vs 32 Knights
2009 Dairy Farmers Stadium Cowboys 36 vs 10 Knights
2008 EnergyAustralia Stadium Cowboys 24 vs 38 Knights
2008 Dairy Farmers Stadium Cowboys 18 vs 30 Knights

The Knights have won four of the last five games played against the Cowboys including one at this venue in 2008 although the last four clashes have gone by way of the home side.

Our Tip: Newcastle Knights

Newcastle can be forgiven for their last round effort in Canberra and they are great value here on the best form and their recent record against the Cowboys, especially at Centrebet if you pick your own line.

Centrebet

Rabbitohs Warriors
1.67 2.25

Sunday July 25, ANZ Stadium 2:00pm

Last Week

The Rabbitohs (8-9) lost by 3 points to the Dragons at ANZ Stadium while the Warriors (10-7) scored a top 13-6 win at home over Melbourne Storm.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Mt Smart Stadium Rabbitohs 24 vs 26 Warriors
2009 Mt Smart Stadium Rabbitohs 22 vs 16 Warriors
2008 ANZ Stadium Rabbitohs 18 vs 16 Warriors
2008 Mt Smart Stadium Rabbitohs 35 vs 28 Warriors
2007 ANZ Stadium Rabbitohs 16 vs 18 Warriors

The Warriors won the most recent encounter earlier this season in New Zealand while the Rabbitohs won the previous three meetings over the last two seasons.

Our Tip: Sydney Rabbitohs

This should be hotly contested affair and both sides have been very good in recent weeks but with the Rabbitohs at home and Jacob Lillyman returning we fancy the Sydney team to get the points.

Centrebet

Sea Eagles Wests
1.55 2.50

Sunday, July 25, Bluetongue Stadium, 3.00pm

Last Week

Manly (9-8) smashed Cronulla 48-18 at Toyota Stadium while Wests Tigers (11-6) defeated the Cowboys by 10 points at Leichardt Oval.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Sydney Football Stadium Eagles 22 vs 26 Tigers
2009 Sydney Football Stadium Eagles 18 vs 19 Tigers
2009 Brookvale Oval Eagles 23 vs 10 Tigers
2008 ANZ Stadium Eagles 48 vs 16 Tigers
2007 Brookvale Oval Eagles 34 vs 4 Tigers

Wests has won the past two clashes against Manly including a point win earlier this season at Sydney Football Stadium. Many won the previous three encounters before that.

Our Tip: Manly Sea Eagles

In what should be a close tussle we think the Sea Eagles will get the job done over Wests and take the points.

Centrebet

Broncos Roosters
1.48 2.70

Monday, July 26, Suncorp Stadium, 7.05pm

Last Week

The Broncos (9-8) proved too strong for the Titans winning by 14 points at Skilled Park while the Roosters (10-7) beat the Bulldogs by 4 points at Sydney Football Stadium.

Recent History

Year Venue Team Result Team
2010 Sydney Football Stadium Broncos 6 vs 25 Roosters
2009 Sydney Football Stadium Broncos 28 vs 24 Roosters
2008 Sydney Football Stadium Broncos 24 vs 16 Roosters
2008 Sydney Football Stadium Broncos 20 vs 14 Roosters
2007 Sydney Football Stadium Broncos 32 vs 10 Roosters

The Roosters won by 19 points earlier in the season when they met at SFS but prior to that game the Broncos had won the previous four.

Our Tip: Brisbane Broncos

Both sides in great form especially the Roosters and with a potential Top 4 spot on the line we are going to see a cracking game. With the game being played in Brisbane we fancy the Broncos will prove the better team on the night and gain a narrow win.

I know this is a strange request, but I figure it’s worth a try.
I was wondering if you could upload these tips a little earlier, like by say, 3 o’clock(ish) Friday arvo. It’s just, I have to submit my footy tips around then for the work competition, and the past weeks your tips have been a huge help.

  2. Beejay says:

Apologies Lilly as circumstances prevented us from getting them up as early as we would have liked the past couple of weeks. Rest assured, in future we will make sure we have them up well before 3pm on a Friday :)

All going well, from now on we should have them up Thursday evenings or Friday morning at latest. Thanks for post and glad to know our tipping has assisted you in recent weeks. Been a few odd results this round though.

Thanks for your post and Happy Punting!

  3. Lilly says:

    Thanks Beejay!
I only got two right this week, so far anyway. (Go the Broncos!)
