Uruguay vs Germany Preview for World Cup third place play-off

Uruguay and Germany have to front up again to battle it out for third place on Sunday 11th July at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and Germany’s Miroslav Klose will be aiming for two goals to snatch the World Cup most goals record from Ronaldo.

The game will take place at the usual 4:30am AEST Melbourne time at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth and will be televised live by SBS in Australia.

Australia’s number one betting agency Sportsbet has Germany 1.73 the favourite to win this match over Uruguay 3.75 with the draw showing 3.50 at time of writing.

Both sides will have less motivation for this match after being so close to a World Cup Final’s berth only a few days ago and now they have to front up again and find the required intensity for what is basically a dead match.

Most interest will centre on Germany’s Miroslav Klose who only needs one goal to equal Brazil’s Ronaldo for the most goals ever at a World Cup.

If Klose can find the net twice then he will break Ronaldo’s record and also be in line for a second successive Golden Boot win if neither Villa or Sneidjer score in the Final on Monday.

Klose is paying $2.00 at Sportsbet to score anytime in the Uruguay and Germany match and considering what is at stake he is an excellent chance to score in this match.

Germany’s Thomas Mueller and Uruguay’s Deigo Forlan have both scored 4 goals this tournament and are still outside chances to get the Golden Boot trophy if they can score multiple goals.

Uruguay vs Germany prediction

Uruguay battled hard against the Netherlands in the Semi-Final before ultimately being outclassed by the Dutch and Germany were never in the hunt against Spain after two great wins over England and Argentina.

Luis Suarez will be back for Uruguay for this match as will Thomas Mueller for Germany which will improve both sides up front and help make a more attacking game.

Uruguay path to World Cup Third Place Play-Off
Uruguay 0-0 France
Uruguay 3-0 South Africa
Uruguay 1-0 Mexico
Uruguay 2-1 South Korea
Uruguay 1-1 Ghana (P 4-2)
Uruguay 2-3 Netherlands
(DWWWWL)

Germany path to World Cup Third Place Play-Off
Germany 4-0 Australia
Germany 0-1 Serbia
Germany 1-0 Ghana
Germany 4-1 England
Germany 4-0 Argentina
Germany 0-1 Spain
(WLWWWL)

If both sides are motivated then this should be a fairly attacking game and the chance of a few goals is very much on the cards.

The Germans will surely be trying to ensure Klose gets on the scoreboard to at least draw level with Ronaldo for most World Cup goals and backing Klose to score anytime at $2.00 seems a very good bet to us, as does the chance of a goal fest with the over 2.5 goals at $1.67.

Our tip: Game Total Over 2.5 Goals
