Spain beat Germany 1-0 to gain World Cup Final berth

Spain have reached their maiden World Cup Final after scoring a deserved 1-0 win against Germany in their 2010 World Cup Semi-Final in South Africa overnight.

Played at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, Spain never gave Germany a chance to get into the game and it will be a Spain versus Netherlands final next Monday 12th July in Johannesburg.

In a match that was dominated from start to finish by Spain, players such as Andres Iniesta, Xabi Alonso and Xavi Hernandez were outstanding around the middle for the Spanish.

With David Villa providing a focal point up forward and Sergio Ramos always dangerous down the right, Germany could do little but watch Spain pass the ball around and create numerous chances throughout the match.

Both sides had solid chances and half chances during the match but it was Spain who were always the more dangerous and they were rewarded on 73 minutes when Carles Puyol rose high from a Hermandez corner to punish the back of the net with a glorious headed goal.

Once Spain scored the goal it was all but over as they were able to continue controlling the game until the end, although Germany pressed hard for the equalising goal but it wasn’t to be and it would be Spain entering their first ever World Cup Final.

The Netherlands stand between Spain and a World Cup winner’s trophy.
