The Netherlands beat Uruguay 3-2 to reach 2010 World Cup Final

The Netherlands have scored a 3-2 victory over Uruguay in their Semi-Final clash at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and will face Germany or Spain in the Final next Monday.

The match was played at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town and was a very entertaining affair from start to finish.

A number of genuine chances were created for both sides during the 90 minutes and Wesley Sneidjer was adjudged man of the match.

It was the Netherlands who found the lead early with an 18th minute goal to Giovanni van Brockhorst who had a try from a fair way out and it was good enough to beat Uruguay keeper Nestor Musler and give the Oranje the early ascendancy.

A wonderful strike from Diego Forlan at the 41st minute put Uruguay back in the match and had the teams level at the break.

The second half produced some exciting football and it would be the Netherlands who would break the game open after goals in quick succession to Wesley Sneijder (70th minute) and Arjen Robben (73rd minute) put them in an unassailable position and a World Cup Final spot beckoning.

Uruguay provided a late scare when Maxi Pereira scored a goal beyond 90 minutes in injury time but it was too little too late and the Netherlands were in their third World Cup Final.

Germany or Spain stand between the Netherlands and World Cup glory.
