Sportsbet punters expecting Federal Election in August

Leading online bookmaker Sportsbet reports strong betting for Julia Gillard to call a Federal Election for August this year.
August is now the short-priced favourite – in from $2.10 to $1.33 since last week’s leadership spill – followed by September at $4 and October at $7.
“Of course it’s speculation, but we’re hearing an election may be called as soon as this Friday, and the bets we’ve taken since late last week certainly support this,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane.
“Just on half of the bets taken since the leadership spill have been for an August election.
“Punters clearly think Labor will strike while the iron is hot as Gillard’s honeymoon period is in full swing.”
Three dates in August – the 7th, 14th and 28th – are equal favourites at $4.50 for the exact election date, with prices as high as $41 available for dates in November.
