2010 Queensland Oaks Preview
The Bart Cummings trained Dariana has opened up the $3.75 favourite for the Queensland Oaks at IASbet and she will be ridden by Steven Arnold and jump from barrier 19 in the classic race.
Dariana won the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate at Randwick before running third in the Group 3 Doomben Roses at her most recent start. Master trainer Bart Cummings will have her at her peak to tackle the 2400 metres of this event.
Doomben Roses winner Marheta at $6.00 looks set to run well again in the Oaks and the Mike Moroney filly is an on pacer drawn ideally in barrier 3 with jockey Mark Zarah likely to her her well placed in the run to give her every chance.
Status Quo $8.00 from the Peter Snowden camp is another filly with genuine claims and she finished just over 3 lengths from Marheta in the Doomben Roses and she will come from barrier 11 with Kerrin McEvoy aboard.
Peter Moody will saddle up improving filly Fairy Oak $8.00 who was always well abck in the Doomben Rose before getting home late to finish a solid fifth. Luke Nolen takes the ride and she will have to negotiate a shocking barrier 21 to enjoy Oaks success.
New Zealand visitor Spera $8.50 has been close-up in her past two runs and she finished less than two lengths from Marheta in the Doomben Roses and is one to watch here. Damian Browne will ride the John Sargeant trained filly and she has the luxury of barrier one to enjoy the run of the race.
Femina Fashion $10.00 is good value on her recent form and she was victorious in the Gold Coast Bracelet before running a mighty race when runner-up in the Doomben Roses from a wide gate. The Trevor Whittington trained filly has not faired much better here and will come from barrier 15 with Larry Cassidy taking the ride.
Queensland Oaks day features 5 quality group races headed by the Group 1 Queensland Oaks and ably supported by the Group 2 two-year-old classic the Sires Produce Stakes.
