2010 Doomben Cup Preview, Field, Tips & Odds

The 2010 Doomben Cup will highlight a top day of racing on Saturday 22nd May at Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, with seven group races on the program, including the Champagne Classic and BRC Sprint.

Metal Bender from the Chris Waller camp has drawn to race on the pace in barrier 7 and Kerrin McEvoy should have him well placed in the run. The 4yo gelding won the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes over 1800 metres at his most recent run and is around $2.90 favourite at Sportsbet at the moment.

Metal Bender has won 6 of his twelve starts to date, with a win and a second from both runs over this journey and he will have plenty of support in the Doomben Cup.

Main danger to the favourite will be Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Road To Rock who will be looking to bow out on a winning note. The Anthony Cumming’s trained galloper finished second behind Metal Bender in the Hollindale Stakes after having an interupted run and he appears much better placed over this distance where he has won three races.

Sportsbet has Road To Rock at $4.00 to win the Doomben Cup and Damien Oliver replaces Stathi Katsidis to ride the second favourite and his wizardry may be enough to turn the tables on the favourite.

Other chances in the Doomben Cup include the Lee Freedman galloper Doctor Fremantle who is steadily improving with each run in Australia and he will be better for his 5.2L seventh in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick last month.

The Doctor has a win and second placing over this trip and Sportsbet have him at $11.00.

Gai Waterhouse mare Gold Water ran a great race when third in the Hollindale Stakes and the 2020 metres is probably as far as this talented galloper wants, but her on pace racing style means she will get the run of the race and she could surprise with the right run.

She has a second placing from her one try over this distance and Sportsbet has Gold Water third favourite at $7.00 in early markets.

Sportsbet are keeping in-form 3yo New Zealand colt Sir Time Keeper very safe at $8.00 and the young galloper is in outstanding form back home and he has won his only two races at this journey.

From barrier 2 Chris Munce will ensure Sir time Keeper gets all the favours and trainer Graeme Nicholson wouldn’t make the trip over for nothing.
