It’s Bayern Munich versus Inter Milan and Louis Van Gaal against Jose Mourinho in the 2010 Champions League Final on Sunday 23rd May at 4:45am AEST Melbourne time.
The much anticipated match will be held at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium which is home to Real Madrid football club, a nine-time champion.
One of the big talking points of the final is the Bayern coach Louis van Gaal facing Inter coach Jose Mourinho, as both were employed together for three years at Barcelona from 1997, with Mourinho, the assistant to van Gaal, 58.
Van Gaal already has success in this tournament when he guided Ajax to the tile in 1995, while Mourinho took FC Porto to the title in 2004.
Germany’s Bayern Munich will be seeking their fifth Champions League (European Cup) crown while their Italian opponents Inter Milan will be after their third title.
Bayern Munich Champions League record
Bayern Munich will be playing their eighth final with four victories in the prestigious event. Bayern won against Atletico Madrid ( 4-0 replay) in 1974, after playing a 1-1 draw, defeated Leeds United (2-0) in 1975, AS Saint-Etienne (1-0) in 1976, and they beat Valencia 5-4 on penalties in 2001, after the game finised on a 1-1 scoreline after extra-time.
The German club currently has a 4-3 record in this tournament and their three losses came against Aston Villa (1-0) in 1982, FC Porto (2-1) in 1987, and one of the best games of football in recent times, when Bayern Munich conceded two late goals in injury time, to go down 2-1 to Manchester United.
If Bayern Munich can land the title they will become a five-time champion alongside Liverpool, but still behind AC Milan with 7 and Real Madrid with 9.
Inter Milan Champions League record
The Italion side Inter Milan has contested four finals, back when it was known as the Eoropean Cup.
Their last win was in 1965 and they have two wins and two losses in all four finals.
Inter Milan won two titles in succession when they defeated Real Madrid (3-1) in 1964 and Benfica (1-0) in 1965. Inter’s two final losses were against Celtic (2-1) in 1967 and Ajax Amsterdam (2-0) in 1972.
Inter Milan will pull level with both Manchester United and Barcelona with three wins if they can gain victory over the German side.

Mouriniho is in my opinion one of the best soccer coaches. He just manages to make his team just the right way against all the different teams he plays. For him it is important not to receive a goal.
