Duke of York Stakes field & barrier draw at York racecourse

The Group 2 Duke of York Stakes will take place tonight at 12:10am AEST Australian time at York racecourse in England, with 2010 Oakleigh Plate winner Starspangledbanner heading the weights.

The race was first run in 1968 and and is run over the sprint distance of 1210 metres at York race track which is a left-hand flat track that gives all horses an equal chance in the run. The home straight at York is 1000 metres in length.

Starspangledbanner has proven himself to be a quality sprinter in Australia with two Group 1 victories to his name. He has been in the hands of Aidan O’Brien in England since March and will carry topweight of 62.6kgs (9st 12lb) for his British debut.

Being a Group 1 winner Starspangledbanner has to give weight to his rivals and there are some very smart gallopers he has to concede weight to in this event.

The Michael Stoute galloper Main Aim is very well fancied in the Duke Of York Stakes and his fresh form is quite good. His second to Fleeting Spirit in the July Cup was most impressive and he looks set to run well.

Three-year-old Showcasing from the John Gosden stable has a win over this track and trip in the Gimcrack and has to be respected, while Anglezarke finished third behind Australian galloper Scenic Blast in the King’s Stand Stakes last year and has to be considered.
