Saturday Racing Wrap – Hollindale Stakes day – May 8th

Metal Bender scored a top win in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast race track on Saturday, while Beethog caused a boil over winning the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas at big odds.

The Gold Coast racecourse enjoyed a fantastic day of stakes racing on Saturday and a big crowd was treated to some outstanding efforts from both horse and jockey on the day.

2010 Hollindale Stakes result and odds


Classy Chris Waller trained Metal Bender was beautifully ridden by Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman to win the Hollindale Stakes at Gold Coast racecourse on Saturday in a time of 1:49.51. Metal Bender $5.50 settled behind the leading pair in the run, until he was called upon in the straight and then ran home too powerfully for his rivals to record a solid win.

Favourite Road To Rock $1.90 was never really in the race and he got home late to pinch second splace from Gold Water who finished third after racing on the pace al lthe way.

2010 Gold Coast Guineas result and odds


Jockey Justin Stanley got 50/1 outsider Beethog home in a driving finish to win the Gold Coast Guineas at the Gold Coast racecourse on Saturday in a time of 1:10.53.

Beethog $51.00 was always well back in the run, but produced a big finish to hit the lead close to home and score by a long neck as he crossed the line.

A bunch of horses crossed the line together and it was the consistent Temple of Boom $5.00 who held on gamely to run second, with Fifteen Carat close-up in third spot.

2010 Prime Ministers Cup result and odds


A well judged Chris Munce ride saw the emerging James Lyons galloper Drenalin win the prime Ministers Cup on the Gold Coast racecourse on Saturday in a time of 1:17.17.

Drenalin $6.50 raced up on the pace before he kicked clear in the run home and defied all challengers in the run to the line to score a narrow win.

Mr Baritone $5.50 finished off the race well to run second , beaten a long head, as did Secrets Untold $19.00, who was a further length back in third place.

2010 Silk Stocking result and odds


David Pfieffer filly Graceful Anna won the listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast racecourse on Saturday in a time of 1:10.17.

Ridden by Larry Cassidy, Graceful Anna $3.00 began like a bullet before settling just behind the pace in the run. When asked for her effort in the straight, she sprinted to the lead and kept going for a good half length win over Kanzan $8.00 second, from the Peter Snowden stable, with the John Thompson mare Conquering Queen $6.50 one and a quarter lengths back in third place.
