Goodwood Preview, SA Derby Preview at Morphettville

A big weekend of thoroughbred action ahead, with group racing in three states across Australia, and Group 1 racing heads to Adelaide on Sunday 2nd May for the $300,000 Goodwood and $300,000 SA Derby, billed as the Super Sunday of Racing at Morphettville racecourse.

Held on Sunday this year, the Goodwood meeting features four group races, with the highlight of the day being Adelaide’s feature sprint race, the Goodwood. The Group 1 event is raced over 1200 metres with competitors lining up against each other carrying set weights plus penalties. Champion galloper Takeover Target won last years running of the Goodwood.

Also on the program is the SA Derby which is a Group 1 classic race for three-year-olds over 2500 metres, which is the same distance as the Victoria Derby. The level weights conditions play into the hands of the more brilliant 3yo gallopers and Rebel Raider won the Derby by a big margin last year.

Saturday Group Racing Action

Brisbane Racing at Eagle Farm
The Brisbane winter carnival kicks off at Eagle Farm racecourse on Saturday 1st May with the running of the Group 2 Sir Byrne Hart Stakes which is run at weight-for-age and will be known as the Victory Stakes for this year.
