2010 AG Hunter Cup Preview

1 – KARLOO MICK: 10 year old ever consistent NSW raider who is as tough as they come. Ran 3rd in last years Inter Dominion final to Mr Feelgood and cannot be over looked on last start 3rd last start in the Ballarat Pacing Cup, after being 3 wide early, then sitting outside the leader.

2 – POWER OF TARA: Is never too far away. Finished 6th in both the Bendigo and Shepparton Cups being beaten by only 6m on each occasion. With a nice economical trip might be able to run in a place.

3 – ROAD TO RAINBOW: Is the emergency of the field. Won the Stawell Pacing Cup after stepping away nicely to lead, then handing up to win along the sprint lane, but if gains a start will out of its depth here.

4 – I AM SAM: Ex Queenslander who is now in the hands of Alan and Amy Tubbs. Ran second in this race last year after stepping away nicely and finding the front. Won the Ararat Cup recently off the 20m mark, when knuckled down nicely to run the leader down in the straight. Unsure if he is going as good as last year, but has been set for this race since this time last year. Team Tubbs will have him spot on for this, and if he finds his top, will be very hard to run over! Top Hope

5 – BONDY: Won last Saturday night’s Pure Steel from behind the tapes at Ballarat in track record time. Worked to the lead and had too much class for the rest! Has won 14/16 from the stand and will again try to find the front. Needs to lead to be in the finish.

6 – IM THEMIGHTYQUINN: From Western Australia. Has been racing in great fashion over in the west but will find this assignment much harder. Place hope only

7 – OHOKA NEVADA: Winner of the Kilmore Cup coming from 3 wide and running on strongly to over run the leader to win. Will settle mid field, and if he can get a good cart into the race will be coming with his powerful burst down the outside. Watch for late!

8 – NOTASWETHORT: In the hands of leading trainer Glenn Douglas, but will find this assignment far too strong. Not in the class of these other grand circuit performers.

9 – PEMBROOK BENNY: Coming from NZ and first race start in Australia. Did win a Free For All back in December beating Changer at Alexandra Park NZ and has won 10 of 30! Market best guide for this one.

10 – SMOKEN UP: Superstar performer who sat 3 wide for majority of the South Australian Cup to go down by just a half neck. Hasn’t raced or been seen at the trails since that race (9th Jan) and Lance decided not to run him in last week’s Ballarat Cup, preferring to go into this race fresh. Will be pushing forward to race outside the leader and can’t see him giving up the death if gets there. Second line draw doesn’t help, as he races best when leading, but will be in the finish making his presence felt

11 – TANABI BROMAC: Won the Horsham Cup and then went on to win the Shepparton Cup off the 10m handicap. Gav will be looking for a nice easy trip then a trail forward to finish off strong with his great sit sprint ability.

12 – TI VOGLIOBE: Was racing in good fashion in some nice races before Xmas but form has dropped away lately. Will find these a bit hot to handle. Draw doesn’t help.

13 – BETTORS STRIKE: Came to Australia with big wraps. Has not disappointed winning 4 out of 4 including the Cranbourne Cup and Victorian Cup beating the likes of Smoken Up, Blacks A Fake, Melpark Major and so on. Can not fault a thing this horse has done and will be hard to hold out here. In Super form and will be in top nick for this race.

14 – WASHAKIE: Had a great win in the Western Australia Cup in track record time of 1.56 over the 2536m on the small track. I would think that McCarthy would be going forward early to put their star into the race! Form is sensational. Eachway chance.

15 – MR FEELGOOD: Winner of this race last year and last years Inter Dominion Champion. Too good of a horse to leave out even off the back mark of 20m. Will be coming home strong, but just hope he doesn’t get too far back on the home turn. Thought he might have over ran the leaders in last week’s Ballarat Cup after sitting in the one-one. in his defence, they did get home in 55.5, and he will be hoping for speed on in the race and will be right in the finish once again!

Can Mr Feelgood make it back to back wins? He will have to come from behind off the 20 metres or work early to get up on pace. Think he faces a tough task. What do others think of his chances?

  2. Nigel says:

After watching Bondy win his race last saturday night he is my pick.I know its a lot stronger field but he looked like he had plenty left

  3. ARG says:

Agree with u Jo, Mr. Feelgood will need Alot of things to go in his favour on Saturday night to go back to back! He will need to step clean from the stand and hope there is some genuin pace in the race! He will also be looking for a nice cart into the race and hopefully not have to do alot of the 3wide line work! But in saying all this we are talking about the reigning inter dominion champion and winner of this race last year! Can’t write him off just because of the handicap! Sure to be an amazing race!!

  4. ARG says:

Did see Bondy win last weekend Nigel and he did go very well. This is a big step up in class for him, if you were driving Bondy, would you try get to the lead and then hand up to the likes of Smoken Up or I Am Sam Or Imthemightyquinn and try and get the nice trip in behind the leader then use the sprint lane?? Because i am tipping there will be a lot of pressure at the front end of the race?? Thoughts??

  5. Jacko says:

Bettors Strike for me. Recent form outstanding and record around this distance has yet to miss a place.

Can’t go wrong each way and in these types of big races need to be on an in form horse. And Bettors Strike is that horse for mine.

  6. Beejay says:

Good work Nigel on tipping Bondy! Feel free to share some more winners if you have any for the Inter Dominion :)
