Emirates Stakes History
The Emirates Stakes was originally known as the Cantala Stakes in 1919 and has grown to become the biggest mile race of the year in Victoria.
A major prizemoney increase in 2005 along with a change of race conditons to a quality handicap has seen the race grow in stature to become one of the most important 1600 metre races in the country each year.
Quality gallopers Vain (1969), Taj Rossi (1973), Better Loosen Up (1989), Shaftesbury Avenue (1990) and Testa Rossa (2000) have all won this event over the years.
